Winter Advice from JL Morris

Winter Advice from JL Morris

Does your insurance cover become restricted when your property is not in use?  A specialist self catering insurance policy continues to provide full cover, which is particularly important as the season of burst pipes is just around the corner.

Every one of our clients who has an Allianz underwritten self catering policy will have received, through the post, an useful reminder of the action you are asked to take to ensure cover will be maintained during the winter.

Once in every 14 days the property requires inspection (not necessarily by you) to allow any problems to be resolved.  Whilst we do not ask for a log of these inspections, it is useful if you can record the date, time and results of the visit to the property.  Heating is to be set continuously at a sensible minimum temperature.

If you have any questions, we look forward to seeing you at the ASSC Conference on 30thOctober.

STA Conference: First Minister’s Announcement

STA Autumn Conference, 1st October
The key headline at the STA Autumn Conference was Nicola Sturgeon announcing that a Scotland-Wide consultation would be undertaken into a tourist tax. She reiterated that there are no plans to introduce a TVL, but Scottish Government recognises that local authorities have challenges with budget cuts. She has accepted the STA’s request for a detailed consultation with a properly informed process.
The First Minister also made comments on Scottish Government’s desire to:
o   devolve immigration matters
o   prepare different sectors for the outcome of Brexit
o   reduce ADT by 50%
o   cap business rates
o   listen to industry
o   continue to invest in infrastructure, which is crucial to the tourism sector, with the recently announced £6m Rural Infrastructure Fund.
o   ensuring the sustainable growth of tourism
o   support destinations that are less frequented

MSP Engagement

MSP Engagement

Over the past few months, ASSC’s CEO, Fiona Campbell has met with numerous MSPs from all parties including Ruth Davidson, Rachael Hamilton, Kevin Stewart, James Kelly, Claire Baker, Stuart McMillan and Graham Simpson.

Conversations have covered the work of the ASSC, the economic benefit of self-catering to the Scottish economy, our concerns regarding the cost of doing business, the Planning (Scotland) Bill, Tourist Tax, and more.

Ongoing conversation is helping to inform policy decisions, and has certainly increased visibility of the ASSC as an Association. We are seen in the right places, and we are talking to the right people.
