HAVE YOUR SAY ON THE FUTURE OF THE RURAL ECONOMY IN SCOTLAND

One of the biggest consultations in recent years on the future of the rural economy in Scotland is now live and everyone who has an interest in rural matters, including tourism and its importance to the rural economy, is being urged to get involved and have their say.

The National Council of Rural Advisors is an independent small group of rural leaders from farming, enterprise, food and drink and tourism who are advising the Cabinet Secretary for Rural Economy and Connectivity, Fergus Ewing MSP.
Willie Cameron (friend of ASSC who has hosted our recent Conferences) represents tourism in the group which is now inviting those who live, work or run businesses in rural areas to contribute ideas to shape the way forward for the rural economy of Scotland.
Rural voices are often under-represented and ignored, and leaving the EU throws up new uncertainties as we reach a crossroads.   The National Council of Rural Advisors is giving ASSC members the chance to have our say.   It is a welcome opportunity for us to influence the development of Rural Scotland.

On Thursday 14th June 2018 MBTAG will be working in partnership with some leading accommodation partners to deliver an event to the accommodation industry in Midlothian & The Scottish Borders.

This event will allow the tourism industry in the 2 regions to understand the opportunities to drive capacity, room nights and extended stays through collaboration and working through new channels and opportunities. Also to hear some top tips..

The objective of this event is to pull accommodation providers ( all types  – from self-catering, B&B’s, Hotels, Glamping, Luxury etc)  together to help us understand what we need to do to shape the future of accommodation in the regions and what else we could and should be doing to maximise opportunities, generating bookings and being more creative.

This in turn will result in visitors staying in the region longer and encourage more overnight stays.  We  need to start thinking and acting differently if we are going to attract new customers and prevent visitors landing in Edinburgh from simply travelling north, or to encourage car-borne visitors from the south to stop rather than driving through or by-passing the area.

On the day we will hear from:

  • Expedia – growing your online presence
  • VisitScotland – being online and VisitScotland can help you
  • Super Control – Maximising the value of every booking
  • MBTAG – opportunities and events including the brand new visitor pass – Beyond Edinburgh and Essential Scotland – Midlothian & The Scottish Borders new online training module.
  • Case Study
  • ASCC – Association of Self Catering to talk about the current state of this sector and the legislations

Details of the speakers and the agenda for the day will follow in due course but we hope that you can join us. Please register now to understand what your accommodation business could be doing and share your ideas and experiences of what has worked well for you.

The event registration will be 10.00hrs for a 10.30hrs start and will conclude with a light lunch at 13.00hrs.

Your input is invaluable and we thank you in advance for attending this event.
