Ancestral Tourists Welcome Scheme Launched

Ancestral Tourists Welcome Scheme

Genealogy has been identified by VisitScotland as a growing and important niche market in Scotland, with an estimated 50m people worldwide claiming Scottish ancestry. Recent research shows that 68% of North Americans cited “genealogy/ researching ancestors” as a motivation for travel to Scotland, with ancestral tourists staying longer and spending significantly more than the average tourist to Scotland.

As the market grows and demand spreads (‘Genealogy’ is one of the three most regularly requested search topics on the Internet), the opportunity exists to distinguish your business as being able and keen to offer local advice and point towards specialist ancestral tourism resources. This opportunity holds particular significance looking forward to VisitScotland’s 2017 theme year; the Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology.

VisitScotland’s has launched an Ancestral Welcome Scheme. Read more…

New and Updated Guidance Sheets

Our library of Guidance Sheets is currently being updated and a new sheet on Regulations has been added.  The Regulations Guidance Sheet is intended to raise awareness on important safety checks, and to point members towards the relevant information.  It is a summary of regulations and safety checks that holiday home owners should be aware of, including Gas Safety, Fire Safety, Carbon Monoxide Alarms, Electrical Safety, Furniture and Furnishings, and Legionella Risk Assessment – all of which Members can download separate ASSC guidance sheets on with more detailed information.  The Regulations Guidance Sheet also links to three useful online sources for further information.

Guidance sheets are one of the benefits of ASSC membership.  If you are interested in becoming a member, visit the Join Us page for more information or contact the ASSC Membership Secretary, Eleanor McBain by administrator@assc.co.uk or on 01462 894483.
